 Simple Hand Sanitizer Recipe

I am a huge fan of washing your hands correctly for killing germs and bacteria. To wash your hands correctly, you need to be vigorously rubbing your hands together for at least 30 seconds with soap and water.  The soap and the friction from the rubbing is what kills the bacteria.  BUT, for those times that we aren't near any areas with soap and water, HAND SANITIZER is a great second option.  Right now the stores seem to be sold out of the hand sanitizer so I wanted to share my recipe with you so you have something you can use now. Plus my recipe is natural and free from excess chemicals and actually has healthy nutrients from the essential oils we added in as a bonus.

Ingredients:

  • Glass bottle with a pump or dropper  **because essential oils can slowly eat through plastic materials leaching toxins into your body when using them.
  • 2/3 cup isopropyl rubbing alcohol - at least 50- 90%+ strength is preferred (or a very high proof liquor like Everclear) Whichever you have on hand.
  • 1/3 cup pure aloe vera gel
  • 15–30 drops of any essential oils that may have antibacterial properties:

Tea Tree, Clove, Thyme, Cinnamon, Orange, Lavender, Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, Bergamot, Peppermint, Oregano.
Mix and Match any of these oils to create a scent you enjoy.
  • Take caution when using citrus oils as they can be considered photosensitive, which means, it can effect the color of your skin when those areas are exposed to lengthy periods sunlight. (usually goes back to normal after several days, but you may get some strange looks until then.)
Directions:
    1. Use a small funnel to add liquids one at a time into the glass container.
    2. Close lid and shake well to mix.
    3. Pump gel onto hands and rub hands vigorously until soaked in.
    4. Use as often as needed.

Optional Moisturizing Choices to Add: You can add one or all.
